"The journal of Annah Eliza Snap begins May 22, 1864, and ends
Sugust 13, 1866. The work covers the final months of the Civil war
in Greeneville, Tennessee. The slow pace of thefirst few entriessoon
gives way to action, as brigades of contending cavalry fight through and
around the town. The journal includes vivid descriptions of nearby
skirmishes, the anguish of separation from loved ones, images of violent
death, and the quiet suspense of day-to-dat life on the home front."
